Good start.
Likewise. I will also contribute significantly to the Windsports' day-fee arrangement. BobK covered 100%, my guess, on the recent Otto Meet day; thanks much, BobK!!!

The US Hawks would like to be a contributor in 2016 as well.

Maybe we could do a 50/50 split between US Hawks and FDGS?

A shared sponsorship between US Hawks and FDGS sounds good to me.

Then in 2017 I'm hoping that Oregon will hold their 45th anniversary at Cape Kiwanda, like they did for Oregon's 40th, in 2012. By that time I would hope that others from SoCal would make the trip (I was sooo lonely, snif, snif) and make a good showing for FDGS and US Hawks HGA. At the 2017 Oregon meet I would leave the antique Eipper FlexiFloater displayed on the beach and enjoy flying my Alpha 210 from the big dune.

I just got this email message yesterday from Frank Colver, President of the Friends of Dockweiler Gliding Society:

Frank Colver wrote:FYI:

A majority of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Dockweiler Gliding Society has voted for Sunday, May 22nd. to have a gathering of hang glider pilots and other enthusiasts, old and new, in celebration of the 168th birthday of Otto Lilienthal and the 45th anniversary of the beginning of the worldwide sport of hang gliding. To be held at the historic hang gliding site at Dockweiler Beach, El Segundo, CA, under the site operation authority of Windsports and sponsored by the Friends of Dockweiler Gliding Society. 10:00 AM to sunset. There is an L.A. County beach parking fee.

Bring your vintage hang glider for display or flight. Modern hang gliders welcome based on space available, vintage HG take priority. There will also be sharing of some gliders (a common practice at Dockweiler). Paragliders are not allowed by county ordnance.

We need to start spreading the word to all we know who might be interested, because the date will come up fast.

Frank Colver, President, FDGS

Judging by the success of last year's 44th anniversary, I expect the 45th to be ... SUPER!!

Well...I was hoping to attend the meet, but I'm still waiting for the car I ordered from the dealership.

My car was destroyed by a teenager about 2 weeks ago and so things haven't been going so well for transportation. Maybe I can make it to the 50th Anniversary Meet.

Harry, I will have the original of your Dockweiler painting on display at the 45th just as I did at the 44th. I sure wish you could be here tomorrow (Sun, 5-22)

Bummer about your car.

Harry,

I echo Frank's sentiments. I was looking forward to meeting you, and I'm sorry about your car.

The 50th, would be great, but don't let that stop you from the 46th, 47th, 48th, and 49th!!    ;)

Here's a photo of Harry's watercolor with the hang gliding pioneer signatures. The framed original will be on display at the 45th anniversary meet.

I wish to remind everyone that this 34th anniversary meet, in Sept 2000, was the anniversary of the first known HG flights at Dockweiler, not the first Otto meet, which was May 23rd, 1971.

Early in the day we were told that only those who flew in the 60's should sign the painting. Thank heavens people objected and the decision was made to include those from the early 70's as well. If that had not been done there would be very few signatures on that painting.

I had to persuade Richard Miller to sign it and yet he was one who also flew there in the 60's. Go figure?
