Hmmm....

Their site states:

*Prime does not write insurance in the states of CA, NH, NY, & RI.

So it might not work for everyone ... yet.    :|

Jelly or bones ~ Real but Dumb Question I Know
Would this insurance include an Occasional flight on a Paraglider, would the Jelly cost Extra

Would or Could the Gliderport simply not accept

It would work in New Mexico for those that want it.
The larger question is how did the USA, an insurance company with the strongest standing military in the world, get everyone to search so diligently for something that we don't want to buy or deal with?

Jelly or bones?

Some time back, I inquired of the Foundation For Freeflight if there were funds available to help form a national hang gliding association.
We support freeflight, they said. You can't exclude any form of freeflight. You have to include paragliders.
That didn't make sense to me.
It does tell me that the FFF has been co-opted by some bizarre, politically correct dogma that threatens to destroy it.

You made me think of a Canadian HG pilot years ago that was touching a PG string. He turned to us and said ::: "" I don't know about you guys but I like a little more bone in my chicken """ ;)

Rick...I sent an email to Xinsurance...no answer yet.

Officially 3 out of 4 (unofficially, he's probably got his fingers in 4 out of 4):

Mark is a member of the VVHGA, CPC, RVHPA chapters. He has served as USHPA treasurer for several years, as well as chair for the insurance and elections committees. He also takes care of the magazine archive project. Mark went to Oregon State University, 1977-1983 for EE/CS and became an Electronic product design engineer in 1983, focused on embedded systems in small start-up companies. Skilled in analog, digital and RF design, as well as mechanical, packaging and test system development. Mark is a H3 and P2, flying since 1994. He flies at various sites around the country, as well as Mexico, Canada and Australia. He is also a Light Sport pilot, training for his private pilot's license. He also flies a trike (HG tug). Mark's message to members, "I'm here to help you with any problems you may have related to our sport. Feel free to contact me by phone or email with questions, complaints or requests for help." About Mark: "I took my first one-day hang gliding lesson in 1987, getting my feet off the ground and sticking a perfect no-step landing. I've been trying to land that well ever since. My next lesson didn't happen until 1994, and I began flying hang gliders seriously in 1996. I picked up paragliding in 1998, and more recently learned to fly an ultralight trike with the intent of becoming a tug pilot. I was asked to fill in for our regional director in the fall of 2000, and joined the board formally as his replacement in 2001. Since then I've served as vice president and treasurer for USHPA. I chair the Insurance and Elections committees, and I'm also in charge of the magazine archive project. I also serve as a trustee of the Foundation for Free Flight, the tax-deductible charity which directly supports site preservation, education and competition for hang gliding and paragliding. I've flown various places in the US, from scooter tow, payout truck tow, aerotow and foot launch. I've flown in several over-the-water maneuvers clinics on my paraglider, and entered one hang gliding competition where I didn't finish last. (A success, in my view!) I've also flown in Canada, Mexico and Australia, and I hope to fly in Europe before too long. In "real life" I'm an electronics design engineer with interests in welding and fabrication, machining, Airedale terriers, community theatre, classical music, jazz and dance. I've also worked in radio broadcasting, television lighting and newspaper editing. I hold an amateur radio license and I'm a licensed Sport Pilot, working on my Private Pilot ticket."

Mark comes from an engineering background and lives in western Oregon. He is a biwingual pilot and has been flying since 1994. Mark brings a strong operations background to the FFF. He is also a USHPA board member, the USHPA Treasurer, and chairs the USHPA Insurance and Elections committees. Mark typically flies along the beach or one of the many inland coastal sites of Oregon with a little airtime in Florida and Southern California; Australia, too.

Here is the email thread from Xinsurance. I don't know if there is anything here but it appears they are at least willing to consider the idea. Thought I would turn this over to you at the board to mull over. Keith

Hi again Logan

I have another question for you. What would you say if I said I have a group of 219 hang glider pilots ( called the US Hawks) that are interested in liability insurance (only).

They are spread out over the US in various states. Would you consider an
idea like that ?? Keith Beebe

PS...thank you for the individual quote Keith Beebe

While we pride ourselves in providing a very quick turn-around time in getting our Quotes out to you, they can only be as refined as the information we receive. Therefore, in some cases, we are able to significantly refine or improve upon the rate quoted if we can achieve a better understanding of the operation and recognize a genuine commitment by the owners and decision makers to be a good, close partner of ours during the pendency of the coverage period and the course of any claims. One way to help us gain confidence in each risk is to hold a brief teleconference with the decision maker of the account to focus on their risk management approach.

Any response should include the US Hawks Hang Gliding Association desire to seperate ourselves from higher risk sports that do not meet the negative "G" load testing of the Hang Glider Manufacturing Association (HGMA).

What else Pilots? (Time for you all to speak your minds or forever hold your peace.)

Whether or not this group can quote an acceptable bid for our money our requirements and risks will have to be in print for them or any other competing bid.

Later EDIT: (14:10 MDST)
Rick Masters has the best record keeping of accidents in the US that I know of.

I think there's been a consensus (correct me if I'm wrong) that the US Hawks will be more of a cafeteria style association. Those who need insurance can pool together and purchase it. Those who don't need it won't have to subsidize other's insurance.

Of course that will make insurance more expensive for those who get it, but it will also give them a strong incentive to manage their risks. I think that's been missing at USHPA.

I apologize that I haven't been doing a good job of following up on these leads. I have a lot of things on my plate right now, and I've just been swamped. I'm hoping the workload subsides pretty soon and I can get to these important matters.
