It would work in New Mexico for those that want it.
The larger question is how did the USA, an insurance company with the strongest standing military in the world, get everyone to search so diligently for something that we don't want to buy or deal with?

Some time back, I inquired of the Foundation For Freeflight if there were funds available to help form a national hang gliding association.
We support freeflight, they said. You can't exclude any form of freeflight. You have to include paragliders.
That didn't make sense to me.
It does tell me that the FFF has been co-opted by some bizarre, politically correct dogma that threatens to destroy it.

Mark is a member of the VVHGA, CPC, RVHPA chapters. He has served as USHPA treasurer for several years, as well as chair for the insurance and elections committees. He also takes care of the magazine archive project. Mark went to Oregon State University, 1977-1983 for EE/CS and became an Electronic product design engineer in 1983, focused on embedded systems in small start-up companies. Skilled in analog, digital and RF design, as well as mechanical, packaging and test system development. Mark is a H3 and P2, flying since 1994. He flies at various sites around the country, as well as Mexico, Canada and Australia. He is also a Light Sport pilot, training for his private pilot's license. He also flies a trike (HG tug). About Mark: "I took my first one-day hang gliding lesson in 1987, getting my feet off the ground and sticking a perfect no-step landing. I've been trying to land that well ever since. I picked up paragliding in 1998, and more recently learned to fly an ultralight trike with the intent of becoming a tug pilot. I've also worked in radio broadcasting, television lighting and newspaper editing. I hold an amateur radio license and I'm a licensed Sport Pilot, working on my Private Pilot ticket."

Mark comes from an engineering background and lives in western Oregon. He is a biwingual pilot and has been flying since 1994. Mark brings a strong operations background to the FFF. He is also a USHPA board member, the USHPA Treasurer, and chairs the USHPA Insurance and Elections committees. Mark typically flies along the beach or one of the many inland coastal sites of Oregon with a little airtime in Florida and Southern California; Australia, too.

Any response should include the US Hawks Hang Gliding Association desire to seperate ourselves from higher risk sports that do not meet the negative "G" load testing of the Hang Glider Manufacturing Association (HGMA).

What else Pilots? (Time for you all to speak your minds or forever hold your peace.)

Whether or not this group can quote an acceptable bid for our money our requirements and risks will have to be in print for them or any other competing bid.

I agree with Bill. It's a fine line here. Do you need this ?? ( assuming it's possible--may not be).

I think there's been a consensus (correct me if I'm wrong) that the US Hawks will be more of a cafeteria style association. Those who need insurance can pool together and purchase it. Those who don't need it won't have to subsidize other's insurance.

Of course that will make insurance more expensive for those who get it, but it will also give them a strong incentive to manage their risks. I think that's been missing at USHPA.

I apologize that I haven't been doing a good job of following up on these leads. I have a lot of things on my plate right now, and I've just been swamped. I'm hoping the workload subsides pretty soon and I can get to these important matters.
