Excellent report Joe!!!

We didn't get a video of every flight, but I counted 59 flights in my video log. I know that the first flight wasn't recorded, so that's a minimum of 60 flights. I'd guess the actual number to be in the mid-60's. I'll try to post some snapshots this evening.

It was a super day!!! :thumbup:

For today, Monday, October 9, 2017: Wind was not being favorable. Air quality poor (Anaheim wild fires!). I called BobK and he noted that he would not be at Dockweiler; he invited me to give a flight report. Frank Colver and Ed R. were not there. BobK mentioned an anticipated further permittee from San Diego may be showing soon. Last night I make a direct invitation to a seasoned HG pilot; he responded that it was a good offer.
Flight report:
2:00 p.m. I began a HG designing session and came up with two options that I aim to soon build and test at Dockweiler.

4: 00 p.m.: Using recently purchased for-hang-gliding truck (year 2001, Dakota Sport, regular cab) for the first time for going to Dockweiler. This session was thought to be my first use of the annual senior parking permit for some of the parking lots run by Los Angeles Beaches and Harbor (see surprise).

5 p.m. : Entered the "Bluff" parking lot and parked near the entrance to the hang glider tie-down gate. That a Beaches and Harbor parking enforcement truck was just feet from me, such reminded me to open the glove compartment and read the agreement for the senior parking permit; surprise: today was Columbus Day and that was listed as a Beaches & Harbor official holiday whereupon the senior parking pass was not valid. I quickly started the truck and left the parking lot and drove up Grand Ave. to Loma Vista Ave. and parked. I accepted that I wanted to try out the spot for a certain type of hang glider transport scenario. In the future when we get to fly Dockweiler any day (hope) in cooperative conduct with the concessionaire, there may be weekends (senior pass not valid) when I'd park on Loma Vista and hand-truck a HG the substantial but enjoyable distance down to the hang glider site.

5:30 to 6:15 p.m.: wind very cross from the north (west is best for the site). So for my mHG flights I used the north mini bowl. Some 10 mHG flights. Five mHG flights involved full-slope climb-backs. I worked up a sweat as planned.*

6:15 Sand out of shoes. Walked up Grand to Loma Vista. Collected from discards near parking spot: foam, two metal racks (Rubbermaid Fasttrack garage-organizing racking) with maybe six or 8 detail attachments, and sacks of concrete.

7:40 p.m. : arrived at home

* Note about Sept. 25, 2017, session with BobK and Ed R. : My 21 HG flights and 21 HG run-out landings and and 21 HG carry backs with BobK's Falcon 3, 195 resulted in some overworked thighs that did not heal for about 10 days. The low wind ends up having a huge workout with such count.

Ed and I had a nice day flying this past Tuesday, October 17th, 2017.

The winds were very light most of the day (although they picked up considerably at sunset ... and after the glider was folded), but we made the best of it. Here are a few shots of Ed's flight:

Looks like increasing Santa Ana (NE) winds through Tuesday this week (Oct 23 & 24). :thumbdown:

I've submitted an e-letter to the new owners of Windsports to try and determine what changes might take place at Dockweiler, especially in regard to the annual Otto anniversary meets. No reply received as of this posting.

Yes, Joe Greblo has sold Windsports. I don't know when the actual transition will take place.
