What can you tell us about these wonderful guys?

Attached is the list of the Original First Seventeen Members of Low and Slow (and sometimes: Out of Control) the for-runner of the USHPA.

The list is pretty impressive with a broad resume for the group consisting of Aero-dynamists, Engineers, Editors, Photographers, Sailplane Pioneers, National and World Champion Sailplane Pilot, Metaphysical Guru, etc.

After 1971, some broke new ground and new world records.

Some are still with us and still practicing the art of flight.

1. The subscribers of Richard Miller's mid-1960's newsletter "Low and Slow and Out of Control" was a distinct list, not shown. My contract with Richard was that I'd take the copyright control of his newsletter and then create a brand new organ "Low & Slow" and have the organ as part of a for-profit venture; the agreement included that I would definitely republish his issues of his earlier newsletter which I did as I packed them into one issue of "Low & Slow." The list you found of subscribers are the new paying subscribers.

2. I will look into each name of the list you found and write something, even if "no notes." I will do this over some time, not just this minute.

The first: Louis Robert Faust, Jr. was my brother. He never flew a hang glider. He just loved me and forked over $6. RIP, brother; thank you.

The list is dated March 24, 1971. We, my son Matt and I, plus Ernest Feher found you at a booth at the Perris Glider Port sailplane show and you told us about the upcoming Otto Lilienthal meet to be in May. I don't know if I subscribed to Low & Slow there or if Matt did. But dads usually pay for their kids things so I would think it would have been in my name but don't know for sure. Mat and Ernest already had built their bamboo Rogollo and were making human tow flights before that time we met you. I remember we were all thrilled that there was actually a publication about hang gliding and that there was going to be a gathering of like minded souls soon. We couldn't quit talking about it all the way home that afternoon.

So, I'm thinking that it must have been very soon after March 24, '71 when we subscribed to Low & Slow at your booth at the Perris Glider Port. Can you find that record of subscriptions?

Frank, the subscriptions were tooled into IBM cards with purple-dye mastering; those cards are long lost; sorry. But I do slightly recall the Flabob Airport table.

I was pretty sure it was Perris but maybe it was Flabob. It would have been shortly before the first Otto meet. Sad that the records are lost.

Seeing this Post got Me thinking about a friend of mine Micky Ferrero who Fle HG's way Back in the Day. Mickey would run Fly Fort Funston in those days that are so long ago now. Well Mickey told Me about a smoking Hot Pilot. Dam Rackanelle, Dan i was made aware of that Dan could really fly. John told me that way back then Dan was regarding being an excellent Aerobatic Pilot Dan was "THE MAN!" Well We lost Racanelli to an Electrical accident. I say that losing Raccanelli was such a tragic loss. PPiots such as Dan, do not come along often enough.

When I think of just awesome Design. regarding Guitars: I think Larry Allers and Ted McCarthy. Who We have to thank for the Gibson SG.

Then We need to be thankful that We have the Altair Predator due to The Master Sail Maker Dick Cheney, and the Designer of the Predator, that person is of course John Heiney.

I have been playing My SG this Morning, I cannot say when I will Fly My Predator, but rest assured I will Fly My Predator again.
