The word hang gliding has been in the public lexicon for many years before the USHPA existed. They could not have trademarked the term itself but only in its usage as a part of a larger name ie: Hang Gliding Magazine, US Hang Gliding Association, etc.

We are free to continue to call our activity / sport "hang gliding" and the machines we do it on "hang gliders".

I always disliked the general public or anyone not in the know, calling it hand gliding and if given the opportunity I would correct them. We don't glide on our hands, the surface area is not large enough.

Now that we know the term "hang gliding" is trademarked by the Frankenstein Corporation*, it will be necessary to place the letters TM after each usage, bracketed by parentheses.
Perhaps the BOD would like to petition the FC to dissuade such usage?
What if they say no? What if they don't respond?
