All Utah State Parks!!

Site Sensitivities

  1. We are under warning form the FAA not to fly illegally after sunset.
  2. We will lose the lower LZ if an accident occurs involving a pilot who has not signed the Metropolitan Water District’s waiver. Without the lower LZ we lose the site.
  3. Speeding through the neighborhood to get to launch is Draper City’s number one problem with the flight park.
  4. Lawsuits against the County caused by non-USHPA members will cause the County to close the park to flying.

Translation: USHPA membership is NOT required to fly those sites!!!

This was first reported by our newest member (Logan) who wrote:

Logan wrote:Hello all, I've eliminated the USHPA and local club requirements from Utah State Parks including Point of The Mountain (Bob is verifying, as he seems to be in disbelief) and I have started work to remove the USHPA monopoly on NPS land (Slow work thus far). Bob and I are pooling our limited experience and resources to see what we can do about getting non-USHPA flying in the parks; that may be through an FAA glider license, creating a new hawk rating system, or.....? We aren't sure yet. One way that you all can help is to bring your collective voices to the discussion at http://www.nationalparkstraveler.org/20 ... membership

Thanks all

Thanks to you Logan!! :salute:

This is really BIG news, but somehow it hasn't gotten any (or very little?) coverage in the national forums (hanggliding.org and ozreport.com). And you certainly haven't heard USHPA announcing this as good news for pilots in Utah. Instead, the local club does all it can to spin it in a negative manner.

I encourage any of our members who can post on those other forums to start a "Look Ma, No USHPA!!" topic listing these sites.

At no time, during our four days at the site, did anyone question us about our flying abilities or any club memberships.

It was like the "good old days" and I don't mean just because I flew again (but that too).

What? There are other hang gliding forums?
Really? Do they know what we know?
Do some hang glider pilots actually go there?
Why?

For a very long time The Oz Report and SG.org have existed. Neither really recognizes the other in any overt way. Then along comes the US Hawks and negative things pop up on both of those forums about the US Hawks and/or its creator(s). What the heck is this all about?

What would be best is if every hang gliding forum recognized and promoted the other (major known) forums. That would make hang gliding stronger! But the apparent rule is Divide and Die. :?: :eh: :wtf:

The US Hawks is the only hang gliding forum to openly refer its members to topics in those other forums. There are times when they have good threads and posts to read. Sometimes attention is brought to controversial topics where some input could be used to "balance" the opinions being expressed. All of this is meant to result in a positive good. There is no doubt in a thinking person's mind that "Divide and Die" is an idiot's way of thinking. But it still goes on.

Anyone coming here will see rational, respectful discussion with little or no negativity - for the sake of negativity - taking place. Constructive criticism is always welcome and many times heard. But come here looking for a "bar room fight" and you will leave disappointed.

I'm proud to be a member of a group that consists of respectful adults who can grasp how to move toward and reach a positive goal! *

* As opposed to disrespectful adolescent "My way or F*** You" types that dominate other forum sites.
