Problems with Logging In

Postby wingspan33 » Fri Nov 01, 2019 6:49 pm

Hello Moderator/Bob K! It has been several weeks if not months that members of the US Hawks have had to know the "secret password" in order to gain access to (posting to) the forum. I know what has to be done, but if I don't do it fast enough even I get a "security" message saying that I can not proceed.

I know you are very busy but it is time that this problem is fixed. As best I recall, these problems began around/at the time that you changed the site from "http" to "https".

I think we have lost members because of this problem. Furthermore, I suspect that many new members have "walked away" because they haven't a clue as to to why they are barred from logging in.

Please make every effort to restore the US Hawks to an easy to log into web site. Thank you for your efforts to solve this/these issues.

I've had a different problem. I tried to go with the secured log in and when I got in, the very next click to another page, I ended up back on the
unsecured http.
So I'm having no problems posting anything or timing out because I'm stuck here in the old unsecured original login.

Yes Sam we both seem to be two insecure old pilots.

Wow! I just managed to login in only one try! My timing must have been spot-on perfect in when to hit the "board index" page. Sometimes it takes so many tries to hit it at just the right second that i give up and go away (hmm...maybe that's the purpose).

It boggles the mind to think of how many new forum members this may have turned away. They would not know or have the patience to hit that button repeatedly until they accidently get the correct timing (there is no indicator of when to hit it).

This time my post is on-topic, thanks for starting this thread, Wingspan33.

"Secure Connection Failed"

I just checked, and in logging into the https version of the US Hawks I get the same problem with both Firefox and Internet Explorer. I guess I could also check with Google Chrome, but I have not downloaded that yet (and not sure I want to).

This problem began, as I explain above, when Bob switched things over from http to https. It's been over 2 months (maybe 3?) and this can't be helping as far as old or new members who are trying to log in. I've talked with Bob about this several times and I think he's made some effort to find the problem (in the code?) but so far no resolution. Bob is also quite busy with other issues, plus he's got a job that takes many hours a week.

A question I'd like to ask, is there any other US Hawks member who knows how to deal with phpBB formating/code? Or do any of you know somebody who knows how to troubleshoot this kind of problem? We need a phpbb genius ASAP.

Hawks,

I asked around, and other members are able to log in http or https with no problem.

Hey Sam,
Bob knows about this problem and has even experienced it himself. I've got a Windows 7 PC and a Windows 10 PC and each of them have the same problem with logging in, logging out, and in trying to post to a thread. I've also tried Internet Explorer (with Firefox as my main browser) AND just yesterday, I downloaded Google Chrome (on my Win 10 PC) and the problem occurs on all three browsers.

I am wondering, do you use a smart phone to visit the site, a PC, or laptop? I am also wondering what browser you're using? A person's operating system may also have something to do with it. Perhaps Apple users don't have issues?

It's also important to know that Bob has a possible fix for the problem. He's a bit busy today so he may not be able to try it right away.

I always use a Windows PC, Windows 7, & Google Chrome and always have the problem. This time I got in with one try so I guess I'm getting better at hitting "Board Index" at just the right moment. :o
