Leadership is not managership.

Leaders lead people.

The challenge of leadership is to get people to do what they normally would not otherwise do.

Competence is important, but Character is the most important.

99% of failures were not from Competence failure but from Character failure.

Leadership is Character.

Leaders are respected because they accept responsibility.

You can delegate authority ... but not responsibility.

The true rewards of leadership come from the leadership itself.

1.No organizations get better unless leaders admit something is wrong.

2. Leaders set goals. Goals are only meaningful if everyone understands their role in the goals. Goals are used to focus and limit.

3. Standards. Sets the measure of success. Leaders establish high standards

4. Failure is contagious. Success is infectious. Leaders reinforce success.

5. Leaders establish latitude to learn.

6. Great leaders don't tell people how to do their job.

Two rules to 21st century leadership:

1. Rule 13 - When placed in command, take charge. Do something.

2. Rule 14 - Do what's right.

Full circle back to character.

Character is doing what's right when you know you could get away with doing what's wrong.

Why did you lose faith in your country?

If the world is only going to have one superpower, thank God it's the United States.

IIRC, Union Pacific's Rule 14 was similar.
It's listed once or twice when they were trying to fire me.
Always beat that rap, but still had to do the time.

I tried to watch Stormin Norman, skipped up a bit, and keyed in where he states that everyone is a leader.
As far as I could get..

Some might remember me from 2002 on. I was the conspiracy guy that was against starting the never ending Gulf Wars...
Got called a lot of names and banned. Back then, Jack and Davis didn't have their sites and they were both quite vocal on the old utah.edu mailing list.
There was little moderation. It was 'the wild, wild west' of internet, back in the day.
That 'hang gliding list' might have been a bit of a 'Milgrim' experiment for the students, at the time?
Jack and Davis lost many arguments then.
They can't stand to lose an argument.

Again, right on target about Jack and Davis. You remember them from a time before hanggliding.org and before ozreport.com. That's a perspective that we value but they fear.

Thanks to you for joining us as well Warren. The breadcrumb story I remember was Hansel and Gretel (my phone's preferred spelling) leaving breadcrumbs to find their way home, but the birds had other plans.

Technology is making it both easier and harder to find the truth. The internet is a scary mix of fact and fiction. It's very helpful to have real people who you really trust to vouch for what's on the web. As technology continues to gain power it will become more and more important to have a network of trusted friends. That is also what we're trying to build here on the U.S. Hawks.
