Your comparison to the "Tandem Right of Way Rule" is exactly right. All traffic on a ridge should pass to the right of oncoming traffic ... just like we do on the road and when walking down a hallway.

That's a very observant comment. There is an aspect of human nature that won't back down when people are watching. Sometimes that's an honorable trait. Other times it's deadly.
