Take a look at this video... The Icarus has all the room to land, he decides to head for the trees and do a J turn at low altitude, there is nothing wrong with a J turn if you have the speed and the altitude to do it. Take note, of how much altitude he loses when he makes a turn. Icarus did a few things wrong from what I see. This Icarus had a lot to work with from the start. the VG is on for 1, which makes the glider hard 2 handle for a small guy. He is flying slow, that is a double surface hang glider, that thing should be ripping up the sky. I think I see some cross controlling there on the video, I don't see movements of hip / feet, or, look at the way you want to go, I see a death grip on the control, I don't see smooth transitions, this is a matter of matter of low attitude and impact earth.
1. Not pulling in for turns
2. Not stuffing it in for speed
3. Letting the glider do what it wants

I would had just kept it straight down the field than to try and make a J
turn that low of altitude... and if I did, I would had done a the J
turn I would had looked to my left to the open field on the left side not where
there are no trees. Over all, he was to low to try to correct a turn, the wing may have
stalled for flying too slow... (I think I see some Cross controlling too)???
