Rivers .... water streaming down an incline ... may be embedded into man's psyche; from high to low, from mountains to sea ..

Hang Gliding's Nous Sphere (HGNS) seems to hold a robust sector concerning inclines.
Early aviation descriptions with staying power to the present have "gliding" as an exhibition of an inclined airfoil sliding down an invisible aerial incline. Hang gliding is saturated with walking and running down inclined soil and ramps only to continue sliding down atmospheric inclines.

Gravity lets hang gliding be an incline activity :!:
Human inclination to use inclines in many ways well may feed HGNS.
Incline that airfoil a bit in order to follow an invisible aerial incline!

Hang gliding uses incline-treated winds for orographic-lift soaring.

An ongoing ode to inclines in hang gliding lives in the US Hawks forum:
============================= :arrow: HERE.

Once one hang glides, one may be very inclined to repeat the action.

Whether you have a"surf foil" or an "air foil", choosing your "foil" and then maneuvering it through the sphere is your choice. If only "air foil" pilots could see their "sphere" as easily as surfers see theirs. This video shows "heavy turbulance" in the "wave", but more so, the surfers CHOICE of "foil" and confidence to "take off". Once in, the "pilot" knows his board will "preform" to his every move. He knows his center of gravity C/G, and he immediately is connected (hopefuly) to it on take off. He knows the lift over drag L/D, characteristics of his board and himself, and constantly adjusts "trim", through the control bar, directly connected to the "foil" and C/G. In a way, a hang glider pilot lives by a surfers rule "don't pearl the board", and the schooner sailors adage "we LOVE to be blown off shore. In these instances , the surf board, the schooner boat, and the hang glider,..... their choice of "foils" to do battle with the sphere, only comes from research and knowing what a "sturdy craft" really is. The surfers in this video would "never" choose a 100 pound brick, the schooner captain would "never" choose a 10' plastic dinghy, the hang glider pilot would "never" choose a 10 lb kite.
There have been good attempts to see and hear the atmosphere, and I believe those are going be the things that continue to bring younger pilots to choose "high tec. Sturdy craft" over a foreign made nylon "soft craft".
"Hang Gliding is hard to learn, but easy to master". (Any body know where this quote came from? Maybe Wills?).
Thank you Joe for bringing forth this NOUS sphere, so future pilots (and current pilots) can choose more wisely their "foil to do battle with the sphere".
"The More You Know The More You'll Go", Juan Browne.
I bring this forward in hopes that "the old school" can help the "new school", see the advantages of choosing a good solid "air foil" , over just a soft, sometimes "air spoil".

It's about "choice" and "style", isn't it.
I miss cruising the Calif. (Not , Come And Live In Florida) coast in our woodie.
And when we got bored with the "on shore" winds , some of my friends "surfed" them, too, and all kinds of hang gliding shops sprung up. I liked my Jacobs 9' 7" though.

enjoy

Craig

When's the last time you "hit the silk" Bob. Thank you for your service.

I post this video in the Nous Sphere, to remind HG, PG pilots about something so important. When turbulent air totally disrupts the "wing", or "breaks" the wing, there is only a short period of time to decide to, and "how to" "throw the backup chute".
The first few seconds are of "tunnel" vision, and "terror", and you can't practice that feeling. The "old school" technology of the "D" ring is tried and true.
Let's challenge ourselves, to develop a "new" backup parachute system, that could be incorporated "into" ones own personal "air foil", that would cut the time of a fully deployed parachute in half. That could be practiced and be part of training and pilot rating systems. Seconds count, nothing's foolproof, but the backup parachute and the "D" ring, saves lives.
This is the Nous Sphere.

It's all about inspiration.
This video triggers my "old pilots" mind.
What a true wing is all about, and a pilot that is closely and firmly attached, to it.

The "invention" of the "fly it and fix it" hang glider has past, but at its core, the spirit of the people, even the pilots, remain in the forefront of why people watch, and help, and fly, hang gliders. The wing itself "remains" ...something to hold on to , and walk around and "kick the tires". The Hang Glider is simple and pure, just like the young ones.

Our Republic is "Flying" because of "old school pilots" like these.

Brave Guys and Beautiful Dolls.

Not Brave....mostly in Love.

Hang Gliding 1980.

How about them glider loopers,
Ain’t they a sight?
Looping them gliders
Mornin’ and night.
Loopin’ them high ones,
Loopin’ them low,
Goin’ in fast
And comin’ out slow.
Loopin’ in the blue sky,
Pink smoke tralinin’,
Hopin’ them wing tubes
Won’t be failin.’
Wanna be a glider looper?
Ain’t nothin’ to it;
Just grab hold of your brain
And unscrew it.
