Happy Birthday Otto Lillienthal!

Today would be Otto's 172nd birthday. Modern aviation owes a debt of gratitude to the first person to apply true scientific study and measurement to how bird wings, and therefore our later wings, function to produce usable lift over drag and thereby can glide, soar, and power through the air.

No, that isn't Ernest Feher. It looks a little like Scott Strom.

BTW - I see Scott now occasionally at a monthly vintage motorcycle meet in Orange County. It was a huge surprise the first time we met there. It had been 37 years since the last time we had seen each other. :o
