Seagull III

Postby JoeF » Thu Nov 12, 2020 1:38 pm

The Seagull III hang glider planned and manufactured by Mike Riggs of Seagull Aircraft has a special history. Customers and pilots of the Seagull III hang glider are invited to focus on Seagull III matters in this topic thread.

New Zealand dealer of Seagull Aircraft came over to the Santa Monica, CA shop of Seagull Aircraft and took home an abundant amount of parts for the Seagull III. Eventually many Seagull IIIs where dealt in the New Zealand and Australian territories. Those stories are welcome.

"curved leading edge" was a hallmark of the Seagull III.

To start this off, here is a recent share brought forward by Gary Osoba:
Mark Langenfeld sent me a link to this early Seagull promo film he got digitized for an archive. Shots of Torrance and Dockweiler. You might wish to share it. I have lots and lots of other stuff and thoughts but this was just shared today. LINK

In the video one will see Bob Keeler, Linda, Mike Riggs, Pat Conniry, ___________, and others. James Budge was a pioneer in Santa Monica for land sailboarding; he took some early video of myself on Seagull III and others for Mike Rigg's purposes.

That is a great resource. I created a Flying with seagulls section of the Torrance Beach page in History of Hang Gliding using some screenshots from the digitized film. (I hope James Budge does not mind.)

Pat Conniry and Hall Brock! We can't bring them back, but we can feel their presence in our universe.
