I truly love this movie. It's the best review of hang gliding ever produced.

I've purchased at least 5 of the DVD versions and watched it nearing 100 times. I watched it twice the day that I purchased my first copy from USHPA when I was a Regional Director. I've given (or loaned) most of them out. I sent one out into the hang gliding community with a signature sheet to be passed around. Every once in a while someone contacts me to thank me for sharing it. I'm thrilled to see it on YouTube where the world can see it.

Bill Liscomb did a remarkable job on this film and the entire sport of hang gliding owes him a salute. It is a true masterpiece in the history of aviation.

It's the night before another celebration of the 1971 Otto Meet, and I just watched Big Blue Sky again. I think I'll call it 100 and keep track from here onward. Thanks again to Bill Liscomb and everyone involved in the movie and the sport.   :salute:

I was just telling Chris about "Big Blue Sky". He said he hadn't seen it, so I'm bumping this topic to make it easier to find.

What a great little Movie! Yes I really enjoyed watching the Movie. And watching those guys fly those early Standards made Me sort of mmake the Comparison to todays Para glider Pilots who as we know fly Their Big old totally flappy Bags of cloth that have no frame. And how those early Standard wings would go into a divergent Dive. I thought of how Para Glider Pilots of today would have that one would have needed in order to Fly a Standard Wing by a wide Margin. Because we all know that Pilots who fly Para Gliders are endowed with having a case of having Pure Guts as their Constitutions that they have the Raw courage that is necessary in order to Fly. Or I love this one, as my Friend Pilot-X says; "I will fly a Paraglider as soon as my rigid wing collapses as often as a Paraglider collapses".

But iut really must have been something to have survived those early Days of Flying and to have seen the wings evolve and to have been quite safe to Fly.

Thank You Bob for posting the Video.

Bill Liscomb did a fantastic job on that. I watched it again after suggesting it to you. I've watched it dozens of times, and I still enjoy it. I hope you'll enjoy it a few more times.

I believe that I will watch this Movie again, and again, and again, You could call my watching this Movie over, and over, and over again a type of Perseverant Viewing spree by Me. I love watching those early pilots with their lying experiences. What a thing to be doing, oh about half a Century ago or so.

Be sure to applaud when you see the short clip of me running my Skysail across a flat beach toward the camera. ;) It's my only appearance in the documentary but my variometers show up (unmentioned) several times on control bars.

You can find Frank's cameo appearance at around 40:40 into Big Blue Sky. Here's a frame:
