Anniversary of Wright's first powerred flight

Postby Frank Colver » Fri Dec 17, 2021 12:27 pm

Today, December 17, 2021 marks the 118th anniversary of the Wright Flyer's first powered flight. I give kudos to all of aviation's pioneers down through the years, both before and after that milestone event.

Do you remember Bill Liscomb's comment about that day in Big Blue Sky?

[IWANT TO RETURN TO MY HOME]

I just love watching this Movie over and over again. Heck the Way I see it =, I am living the Dream. For I have been to Cloud Base so many Times . I want to Fly up to Cloud base again so badly. Watching these Guts in this Movie, Guys like Joe Faust verbalize what I have felt so profoundly many times. Pilots such as Joe Faust put into words so well How we feel when we Fly. Well my day where I will return to My Home; The Sky. I believe that where I will return to My Home will Be Dockweiler Beach flying Frank's Condor.

Not quite sure why we would mark milestones of powered flight in a HG forum ;-)
Non powered flight has a few firsts to offer, too. Otto Lilienthal, Octave Chanute and Percy Pilcher spring to mind. But there is also George Cayley who built a glider that was flown as early as 1853. I like to think that there are more like the first stained flight in a thermal. Or the first passenger flight in a glider.

That sounds like someone volunteering to remind us of some non-powered aviation anniversaries.
