Thanks Frank!

I was also just reading a post from Craig in the "Jailed for taking pictures at Torrey" topic:

Craig Muhonen wrote:https://ushga.aero/masters/index.php/ushpa-dystopia/
one of many reports from Rick Masters that are so well put together. as always , TY

I had been following a few of the sites at USHGA.aero:

But most of them are relatively "flat" single pages without a lot of links. But there's a lot more going on behind the innocent looking "Menu" button on Rick's page:

Behind Rick's USHGA.aero Menu you'll find:

Way to go Rick!!

So if you visit some of the USHGA.aero sites, be sure to check out the "Menu" button for potential added treasure.

Thanks Rick ... and thanks Craig!!

Note: The previous reference to the "Menu" button was written with regard to cell phone browsers. Full size (desktop) browsers will show all of the links on Rick's page without needing to use the Menu button. Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks for inadvertently reminding me that I promised Rick I would write something about my paraglider instructor's words and her death later. I will get on that soon!

Rick or Frank,

Do you know what the policy is for front page listing on USHGA.aero? I currently see listings for 4 pilots (Frank, John, Tom, and Rick). But I know that there are others like Joe Faust and myself who have pages at USHGA.aero but aren't listed. Do you know how we can get our pages listed?

Thanks in advance for any information.

I was waiting for Rick to reply to this question. I have no idea.

Best to email him directly.

Bob,
I worked with Rick on the matter and decided that I would not have a page in his website; but he apparently has a poster page for you and me:

https://ushga.aero/kuczewski/
https://ushga.aero/faust/

I did not renew one of my domains; his page for me has two links, one not working, and the other for ushgrs.org working.
Best of lift,
Joe

Thanks Joe. I added the original content to my page when USHGA.aero began offering pilot pages. It's still correct as far as I know, and I am happy to keep it as a reference for my work in the sport.

Thanks Frank. I sent Rick an email question about the front page on February 3, 2022. Here's my message:

Hello Rick,

I'm glad to see more progress on USHGA.aero. Please call on me any time if you could use any technical help (I can even do some "grunt work" if you need it).

I'm writing to ask about a front page listing for my site on USHGA.aero. I noticed that some folks were listed and others were not. Joe Faust posted about that tonight here:

     https://ushawks.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3351&start=10#p31008

As stated in my own post, I don't know the policy for front page listing, but I would like my site to be listed if possible.

Thanks in advance, and I hope all is well.

Bob

Here's the relevant part of what I got back from Rick:

Rick Masters wrote:The front page is not an index.
It points to a handful of hang gliding sites that I consider of high merit.

Sadly, that doesn't provide a lot of hope that USHGA.aero will become an organization that will unify the sport of hang gliding. Rick is an excellent writer, and his web site is good reading for many many reasons. But without an index where people can find what they want, the site will mostly reflect what Rick wants people to see. That's already the problem with USHPA, hanggliding.org, and ozreport.com - they all reflect only what their owners want people to see.

As a site operator myself, I can certainly understand Rick's temptation, and it's always difficult for me when I see something posted on U.S. Hawks that I strongly disagree with. But I take that as a challenge to either provide a better counter argument or to moderate my own views rather than simply hiding or burying what I don't like.

I would like to see USHGA.aero become what USHGA should have been, and I strongly encourage Rick to change that policy and provide a path to all USHGA.aero sites from the front page. That doesn't mean that all sites need to be listed on the front page. Rick could easily add a second level index titled "Other sites" that's visible from the front page. That would at least provide folks with a way "to get there from here" on his site while giving him some editorial authority over what appears on the front page.
