Practice push ups gradually. Stand in an open doorway with your feet twelve inches back from the door frame. As things get easier move your feet farther away. You know the Word Bucket triggered an Memory that I have from when i was talking to John the other day oh, maybe a Month or so ago. Craig I going to assume that You know nothing of My History of Flying a HG. But rest assured I was quite a good Pilot. Especially when it came to landing. Here are some things that John said to Me, and wrote and posted. He posted this. "Chris McKeon see's LZ's where other PIlots do not". John AND MINE TALK VIA THE PHONE": I asked John; "Have You ever seen a Pilot whom could land as well as I landed?" John replied to My Query by saying: Maybe? He John replied by saying; Steve Noyes. Steve would get towed up again and again by His father Bill who dove the boat that He used to Tow Steve up again and again. Steve would land on the Beach where He would stick one of His Feet into the Bucket upon landing. I think that is some pretty accurate landings! So at least even if John did not just Flat out say that I was the Best Lander that He had seen. I feel at least I am held in Good Company regarding that John thinks that I am comparable to Steve Moyes.
But that Was then, and this is now. I am in the process of rebuilding My Brain, and My Body. Flying has been in the end, My last Flight. Flying has been a very humbling indevor.
So here I am 12 Years after My Last Flight. Tomorrow i will be heading to the Post Office to Mail the Release, sio that I will be able to Fly Down at Dockweiler Beach. I am going to Bring a Bucket along with My Harness. I wonder if Bob will be willing to drive down to Torrey Pines, and place the Bucket. So that I will have a Place to put My "Left foot" in when I land that Condor, Yea Baby!
Really though, I know that I have been typing Trash. But really if a Pilot could land with one of His feet in a Bucket upon landing. If the Pilot could consistently say before launch which foot. Either the Left or Their right Foot would be the Foot that would be standing in the Bucket, Then that would be a"GOOD LANDING". Now that would be a Good Pilot.
Somewhere at the Hawks website Bob posted a picture of my friend, Don Ray, about to land in a laundry basket. We sometimes would put a Hula Hoop on the beach as a landing target. Being reminded of something when the word bucket came up in conversation reminded me to post something to you. Back in the late 60’s I spent 50 cents on a 5-1/2” X 4” booklet: INSTANT MEMORY by Robert Harbin. ( Now around $15.00) Here is a synopsis. Memory by association. Create a base list first: 1) Bun, 2) Shoe, 3) Tree, 4) Door, 5) Hive, 6) Sticks, 7) Heaven, 8) Plate, 9) Vine, 10) Den. Picture each word and memorize each number and word by heart. To remember a new list associate the new word with your (forever) base list word. Don’t use logic but only humor or ridiculousness to associate the new word with the base word. Like: car is the first new word. That would be; 1) is a bun there are four buns on a car in place of the Wheels and tires. Second word is banana. 2) is your shoe but when you step into it someone had put a banana in there and you squished it and now your sock is all yucky. Third new word is hang glider. So - 3) Tree that has new buds that blossom into full sized hang gliders. Pluck the one you want and go fly. Fourth new word is transmission. So - 4) Door (a half opened door) and someone balanced a 4 speed transmission on the top of the door. When you opened the door the rest of the way it fell and clobbered you. AND SO ON -
Did you ever find that mechanical type writer you wanted? Keeping your fingers busy with pencil and paper and typing, help keep the brain cells making new pathways. Here is something to keep your fingers and hands busy; Get, or make some "Juggling Bags", sit down in front of a wall, start practicing with one bag, then two, and before you know it, three. Check out youtube. Tape a small spot on the wall at eye level, and look at this spot while your hands learn how throw and catch the bags.
