Rough draft prior to design finishing:
Outlining assembly steps for a particular tiny-packed HG,
it will be interesting to compare the following to its later child after design is completed and experienced.
Place lower rigging net on ground.
Place 18 beams in approximate final orientation on the ground.
Mount rigging bases on the beams.
Join beams using Joe Socks where needed.
Join spar assemblies to keel.
Set diagonal stays.
Set camber stuffers.
Mount sail sock.
Orient upper rigging net.
Connect most of upper rigging net.
Place two kingposts into keel.
Connect upper rigging to kingposts
Connect High Hat and its axle line between tops of the two kingposts.
Anchor wing to thwart wind effects.
Connect most of the lower rigging.
Mount the aft sail.
Connect the two queen posts along with the base line.
Connect the hang loop.
Check tensions and form.
Do a full system check.
Clear for a ground-skim flight check.
Connect self to the wing.
Disconnect wing from its anchoring.
Clear? People? Things? Wind? Self?
Perform a ground-skim flight check.
Evaluate matters.

OK I have a Couple of specific Questions regarding being able to short Pack a Glider. 1: How prevalent is this short Packing? How Many Pilots have used the Ability to Shor Pack One's Glider, has been used to Fly XC Sans Driver?

r has anyone Short Packed Their Glider. Then used say the Bus to Get to say a Local Flying site?

I mean, I see numerous Possibilities where a Pilot could use the ability to short Pack Their Glider. Granted that say that You are at a site like Dockweiler, Providing thart is blowing strong enough to make a few soaring Passes. Then being able to Short-Pack ones Glider would be of little benefit. But being able to Short able to Short-Pack Ones Glider and say use the Bus to get to the site could be a great benefit.

Chris, here is some response to your two questions:
"Short-packed" of "longer than 5 ft in length" has had some use in hang gliding, especially for transporting gliders by aircraft, bus, or train.. Short packing with lengths longer than 5 ft for "sans-driver XC adventures" might have some history, but I have none to report. Note: Short-pack of packs longer than 5 ft is a topic separate from the present topic about 5-ft or less in length.

Eddie Paul had a short-pack HG, but he transported it in private car. Length of his pack is yet to be confirmed. Anyone?
===============================================================================================================

One of my on-topic builds will probably involve 5-squared beams, that is: 25 beams. :salute:

It might be cool to be able say Launch Fly a hundred Miles or so. Land Your Predator. short pack My Predator then pull out My Cell Phone and calling say Uber or? then return to where I began. Like KM said about Flying XC; When Flying XC, it is after You land that the Adventure Begins.

Being that John will be coming up here to the Bay Area in a few Months. I look forward to discussing how feasible it would be to Short Pack My Predator.

One task that John Will tend to while he is here will be to perform an IRAN on My Predator.

PAYLOAD:

I am coping at the Bit to Fly My One Fifty-Eight Predator. Heck My Predator had as Zac Majors said once; The Predator has such a tremendous Sink Rate. i can only Emagine how My losing a Hundred Pounds will affect how well My Predator will Climb.

This deal of being able to short Pack My Predator really has peake My interest.

Recall that "short-packed" has various meanings in hang gliding. Many "short-packings" are longer than the topic thread's focus of 5-ft or less. The means of getting to longer-than-5-ft short packs remain interesting mechanically. Some longer-than-5-ft short packs transport quite differently from 5-ft-or-less short packs. And part of the interest in the topic's deal is the matter of lighter-than-usual toted tiny packings. The Predator that you have could be sliced and diced, but coupling back up will add weight over what you have; such all might lead to more challenges than what you have going. Whole new HG designs with the 5-ft-or-less handy and polite packings may well be the fountain of solutions to this topic.

The drawing on the lower right of the page shows a hang glider design from the 1930s
.."Roberto Pinotti obtained evidence documents of the alleged June 13, 1933 crash in Northern Italy and a secret department set up by Mussolini to study the craft.."
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... Italy.html
The hang glider design uses two hula hoops connected like a gimbal. One of the hula hoops is used as the control frame, the other is deformed into the shape of a wing and covered with an unusual metal.
The two hoops can be collapsed much like any modern collapsable tent sold on Amazon.
If you can't figure it out I will do a model in a month when I have time. (I have more but don't have time to post)

Two-hoop experimental HG frame!

The new era of tiny packs may be seeing materials from studies like found in the paper:

OK I have some Thoghts regarding this Short packing thread. I have already mentioned how cool it would be to be able to say take My Predator using Public Transportation to ssay a Beach site, or to A Mountain where I could set Up and Launch. I believe? that I read where some Pilots had short packed Their Gliders in order to get to Dockweiler Beach then Fly. As I have already mentioned. This is too cool. I realize that there might be problems short packing My Predator. But when I see John this Summer, I will run the idea by Him.

"short packing" to what "shortness"? A specific shortness of 5 ft or less is a key focus for this topic. Short packing efforts to longer-than-5-ft might teach challenges and tease solutions that might apply for the 5-ft or less packing; look for such influence.
=========================================================
One solution direction in my flow envisions a two-packs deal, say pack L and pack R. A wing cover sock for left wing would hold parts for the left wing; a wing cover sock for right wing would hold parts for the right wing. Keel matters would fit in pack L or pack R. Aft left parts and left ribs/struts would be in pack L; aft right parts and right ribs/struts would be in the pack R. Left queen post and left king post would go in pack L. Right queen post and right king pos would go in pack R. Line sets for left wing would go in pack L; line sets for right wing would go in pack R. High hat line and wing would go in one of the packs. Base line would go in one of the packs. Left-wing stuffers would go in pack L; right-wing stuffers would go in pack R.
During trekking: back packing the two packs or use of travois or wheeling might apply. During bus/train riding the two packs could stand vertically against pilot's body.

Heck I am not even Flying as of late August twenty Sixth 2023. But the idea that I got from seeing this Post has Me thinking, If were to have the capability of being able to simply after I landed to Short -Pack My Predator after having done while Flying an Cross Country route that where the line of Big Puffy Cumi nimbus Dark bottomed clouds said to; "You will go this way" Well when the Day comes when I encounter that dreaded Foul filthy Cuss word; "SINK". Yes the Day will come when I Sink out and have to land. I will do exactly that I will land. Say a couple of Miles from a road. But no problem. I will simply short pack My Predator. nd hike to that road.

Look, I know that I am not the only One Who must deal with the issue of; OK, Youve sunk out, had to land. Now what? OK there must be other Pilots who by now have used short packing their Glider as a Means to an end, Retrieval!

So please post Your Post Cross Country Retrieval Experiences.

One More thing. Bob please do not delate this post because it contained the Filthy, four-letter cuss word Sink.
