"Put your money where your mouth is ...!
Well, in this topic's context, I can report that I am investing deeply toward the polite-busable hang glider arena. The investing actions are multifaceted.

One facet: reducing my belongings to make time and space and energy for the movement to solutions for such HG wings; this is no small task, as I collected things for other foci; and the removal of such excess is a major project that has been underway firmly for months now; there is yet more to do to complete the "reduction project."

Another facet: stop collecting for now-declared moribund concerns as the number of acceptable foci has been dropping down. Positively tool up for the fewer foci which includes the Wing5 project.

Another facet: refusing to renew my driver's license and master non-car living where winging with Wing5 in a non-car flow becomes the call at most turns. Accept profoundly gliding via use of non-car means: walk, hike, cart, trek, bus, train, travois, hand tow, ... As of September 21, 2023, I'll offcially have no car driver's license, but a California simple I.D.

The epoch of tiny-packed HG users will be populated by yet unknowns. Make yourself known and share your designs and experiences! I will let you know when I am a citizen of such epoch. I am making preparations for such citizenship. Handily politely busable .... etc. Applying for such citizenship is no little matter! So far, there is no known living citizens of the topic's epoch. Report such epoch matters in this topic thread! Thanks.

OK here I sit, I am a currently a non-flying Predator Pilot. Heck even though I am not Flying these Days. The Jury is currently out regarding ig I will ever Fly again. Nut that does noy mean that I do not think about flying constantly. The ability to short Pack a One's Glider to say Five feet. The idea that I could Short-Pack My Predator to a Five feet length would change My Flying Options. Yes, I could get to a Launch without needing a Vehicle with a Rack. Consequently, the same could be true for a retrieval.

What I do not understand is this. Why does it seem that there is not much of an active interest? I mean I have seen the Video that stows a Pilot flying Dockweiler on a Day without enough wind so that the Pilot could Simply Land back om top. But I wonder why it is that some Southern California Cross Country Pilots are not putting up Posts how well this short packing their Gliders has enabled them to Fly an XC Route land, then take out Their Phone and Call someone to come and get them, it could be a Taxi, Uber, whatever. For We all know that being able to Short-Pack a Glider to Five feet would enable a Pilot to deal with retrieval by Himself and a Taxi, Uber, you name it.

Am I the onlyone wo sees the Potential here?

You are not the only one who sees some of the potential positives of various short packings of hang gliders. :salute: :!:
Be open to short packings where the pilot carries two or three packs. Some of us aim for being present on a city bus with a packing set that is viewed as "handy" and "polite" and even "welcomed" by drivers and other passengers.

There are challenges regarding short and tiny packings of HGs. Staying aware of the challenges would help to save lives. Here are some challenge spaces involved in some efforts:

 Repeated assembly of potentially more parts might bring stress points, wear points, fatigue points, error points, lost-part points, ...

 Time to ready the wing for flight may be increased, but not necessarily. Design matters. Time to pack up at the end of a flight session may increase, but not necessarily.

 Until the movement is matured into high performances, there is a strong possibility that first-movement designs for tiny packings will result in very conservative performance hang glider designs. Some designs may be "stay-line dirty" with drag costs.

 Conservative sites and conservative conditions may rule the early period of the coming epoch tiny-packed hang glider epoch.

Thank you, dhmartens!
Bill apparently has two big versions fo the Big Blue Sky; the early one was distinct from the one you just linked. Thanks.

Note: The film narration still did not correct the matter to the reality: The triangle control frame for sport hang gliding was firmly evident in the first decade of 1900. The John North triangle control frame even came before the Oz occurrence. The flow at Oz arenas for the TCF was not invention, but a reappearance of far earlier technology.

The coming epoch of tiny-pack hang gliders (at first probably very conservative designs) will go through its own evolutionary story, hopefully without deaths!

Macro strategies, MS1 through MS6: not in any certain valued order and not comprehensive:
 Macro Strategy One: Aim for a desired packing and then massage such until a workable aerodynamic shape results.
 Macro Strategy Two: Aim for a shape and somehow get the shape tiny packed.
 Macro Strategy Three: Bounce back and forth from tiny-packing schemes to shaping until a satisfaction is reached.
 Macro Strategy Four: Begin with an extant HG and force a tiny packing of it.
 Macro Strategy Five: Modify an artificial intelligence program and train it over structures, wings, connectors, fasteners, lines, knots, sails, aerodynamics, etc. Then feed it prompts for the goals; keep improving the training and prompts until some cool designs dropu out of the conversations.
 Macro Strategy Six: Announce a world design contest with rules and prizes. Have the prizes strong enough to attract top design talent. Have a judge group to care for rule fulfillment. See what the world produces for polite tiny-packed handy busable conservative hang gliders. Define just what might make up a "conservative-performance hang glider" for these purposes. How to fund the prizes? What might be a good name for such a contest?

 :?: :?:
=======================================
One step cousin to MS5:

Joe asked ChatGPT 3.5:
How would one go about adopting an AI program and training it specifically for facing prompts that would advance the design solutions for obtaining a politely carriable busable conservative performance tiny-packed hang glider?

ChatGPT answered:
Adopting and training an AI program for advancing the design solutions of a compact, performance-oriented hang glider involves several steps. Here's a high-level overview of the process:

Define Objectives and Requirements:
Clearly outline your objectives for the hang glider design. What are your performance goals, size constraints, and design preferences? Define specific metrics for evaluating design solutions.

Choose or Develop an AI Model:
Decide whether you want to build a custom AI model or use an existing one. For text-based AI, GPT-3 or its successors can be useful. For design optimization, you might need specialized AI tools or models.

Collect and Prepare Data:
Gather relevant data, including existing hang glider designs, performance data, and any other information that can aid in the design process. Ensure the data is well-structured and labeled.

Preprocess Data:
Clean, format, and preprocess the data to make it suitable for training. This may involve converting data into a machine-readable format and handling missing or noisy data.

Define Prompts and Inputs:
Create prompts or input formats that the AI model will understand. In your case, you might provide descriptions of the hang glider's requirements, constraints, and performance objectives as prompts.

Train the AI Model:
Train the AI model using the prepared data and prompts. Fine-tune the model to align with your specific design goals. This may require iterations to improve the model's performance.

Evaluate Model Performance:
Assess the AI model's performance by generating design suggestions based on your prompts. Evaluate the quality of generated solutions against your predefined metrics and objectives.

Refine and Iterate:
Refine the AI model based on the feedback and results from the evaluation phase. Continuously iterate and improve the model's capabilities.

Implement Design Recommendations:
Once the AI model generates suitable design recommendations, work with engineers and designers to implement these suggestions in the hang glider's actual design.

Test and Validate:
Prototype and test the hang glider designs recommended by the AI to ensure they meet safety and performance standards. Iterate on the design as needed.

Monitor and Maintain:
Regularly monitor the AI system's performance and adapt it to changing requirements or design goals. Continue to collect data and improve the model over time.

Legal and Ethical Considerations:
Ensure that your AI system complies with legal and ethical standards, especially in safety-critical applications like hang glider design.

Expert Involvement:
While AI can generate design suggestions, it's essential to involve domain experts in the process to validate and refine the recommendations.

Documentation:
Keep detailed records of the AI model's training, design recommendations, and outcomes for future reference and analysis.

The process of adopting and training an AI program for hang glider design is complex and may require expertise in AI, aerospace engineering, and data science. Collaboration between domain experts and AI practitioners is crucial to achieving the desired design goals while ensuring safety and performance.
===========================================

ChatGPT kept adding to several other prompts:
It is crucial to maintain a strong focus on safety, even in less demanding conditions, to ensure the well-being of the pilots and the success of the project.

The ufo was a quad copter. I bet 99.9% of ufo sightings are drones. Nonetheless brought back memories.
Northwing Hanggliding might be the best bet to try a telescopic hang glider as they have shown the most activity in alternative developement even though WillsWing provided a wheeled cart glider.
I think a telescopic glider is an incremental change and has a good chance of success. My AI is telling me the 5' movement results in buying a paraglider.
We might need to raise money to pay Northwing to attempt this.

dhmartens,
1. Maybe just order from Northwing a glider featuring telescopic tubes.
2. Some UFOs may be hang gliders.
3. Your artificial intelligence (AI)? Did you prompt with an insistence on rigid airframe for the tiny-packed hang glider movement?

=======================
=======================
I just queried AI ChatGPT 3.5:
Joe Faust prompted ChatGPT 3.5 with:
There is a movement to obtain hang gliders of conservative performance that tiny pack to one or two tote packs where the long dimension of the packs are less than or equal to 5 feet. Further, the one or two packs are to present as polite luggage on a city bus where the weight and bulk present as non-threatening to other passengers. Further, the aim is to have the hang glider packs together weigh less than or equal to 30 pounds. Further, the hang glider is to have an airframe that strongly helps to keep the shape of the flying hang glider when the hang glider meets helical and other shaped gusts. What do you think about such a technological movement in the sport?

ChatGPT responded:
The concept of developing hang gliders with conservative performance that are highly portable, lightweight, and easy to transport on public transportation while also having an airframe capable of handling various gusts is an interesting and potentially valuable development in the sport of hang gliding. Let's break down some key points to consider:

Portability: Making hang gliders more portable by allowing them to be packed into compact tote packs is a significant advancement. This could encourage more people to take up hang gliding, as they wouldn't need specialized transportation to reach flying sites.

Weight: Keeping the combined weight of the hang glider packs under 30 pounds makes them more manageable for individuals to carry, further enhancing their accessibility.

Public Transportation: Ensuring that the hang glider packs are compact enough to be considered polite luggage on public transportation is a practical consideration, especially for urban dwellers who may not have access to private vehicles.

Airframe Design: Developing an airframe that can handle a variety of gusts is essential for safety. It can make hang gliding more reliable and enjoyable, especially in unpredictable weather conditions.

Conservative Performance: While high-performance hang gliders are exciting for experienced pilots, conservative performance hang gliders can be more forgiving and accessible to newcomers. This can potentially attract a wider range of participants to the sport.

Safety: Safety should always be a top priority. Ensuring that the design and materials used in these hang gliders meet safety standards is crucial.

Environmental Impact: As with any technological development, it's important to consider the environmental impact of manufacturing these hang gliders and their components. Sustainable materials and production processes should be explored.

In conclusion, the technological movement to create portable, lightweight, and gust-resistant hang gliders with conservative performance has the potential to make the sport more accessible and enjoyable for a broader audience. However, it's essential to maintain safety standards and consider environmental implications in the pursuit of these innovations. Additionally, feedback and input from hang gliding enthusiasts, engineers, and designers will be valuable in shaping the development of such hang gliders.
