I already posted this in a separate Labor Day topic, but I also wanted to update Joe Faust's Dockweiler Recreational Hang Gliding Diary topic with this enjoyable day of flying (September 4th, 2023). Here's the video:
I made 28 actual flights, but the first two were made before I set up the video camera.
There were lots of people watching and asking questions. One little boy asked me to "race" him down the hill, and his father didn't seem to mind. The little boy wanted to bet me, but I felt I had an unfair advantage so I declined. The third flight of the video (starting around 52 seconds) shows the race (the boy is running down a parallel runway on the left side of the video). I'm glad I didn't take the bet because he was amazingly fast and it's not clear who actually won!
Thanks to Joe Faust and Frank Colver for helping open the site for the U.S. Hawks. Thanks also to Frank for the very nice gift of the Condor 225. And finally, thanks to Joe Greblo for his kind letter of reference that helped us open the site.

Well, finally after a couple of No Shows. This Year at the End of May. I intend on being at the Otto Meet down in San Diego. I will get to Meet Some of You in Person. that Frank will let Me Fly His Ultra Large Circus Tent sized WW 330 Condor. I am so looking forward to this. I do not know what it will feel to Fly for the first Time since March twenty-eight Two Thousand Ten.
Hi Chris, The Dockweiler State Beach Hang Gliding Park is just a half-mile or so south of LAX. Note on maps the El Segundo City. Differently, the park is about 110 miles north of Torrey Pines gliding area.
One plan might be obtaining refresher lessons under the guide of the Windsports instructors before flying the big Condor. And note: the Otto Lilienthal celebrating is not usually an organized event, but simply people showing up individually to be, do and fly what they might. Obtain the free waiver recordation with Los Angeles County Beaches & Harbor; this can be done by starting the process this week; mail a signed form (see other posts in forum for a copy of the form) and enclosed a stamped self-addressed envelope for receiving an approved waiver; getting that done may be a key step.

Ok Joe: Here are some of My Thoughts Regarding My Quest to once again: "SOAR LIKE A PREDATOR". What is cool is that each Day I find Myself getting back to be what I was before My Last Flight. Well anyways I do indeed believe that I will get down to Dockweiler where I hope to become an Aviator Who will also be a "Dune Goon". That Dream of Flight that I had in My Head even Before I first took Flight. Well, the Dream of Flight still burns bright.
OK I have a Question regarding the Dockweiler Site. Has, or do any Pilots on Days where there is a firm Breeze of say; Oh, I do not know how strong? But say a Breeze of say about twenty Miles a Hour or so. Well providing that there is a Firm Breeze where a Pilot could Maintain without sinking out. Has a Pilot Flown multiple Flights, while having launched while on Top. Then landing on Top? As in launch. Make soaring Pass's. Land on Top. land on top, Repeat, Repeat, Repeat, Etc. Etc. I mean hasn't anyone done this at Dockwiller? For doing Flights and Landing on Top would allow a whole bunch of Flights to be accomplished.
