USHPA is a school that No one ever graduates from.
THE USHPA turned recreational pilots into cash cows to pay for their failing business

~ Keeping the free public paying their insurance bills ~

Yup , Again this is the kind of crap recreational pilots are putting up with....
Torrey Pines Gliderport just rips off the Public By force of contract to pay their bills
A racketeering operation that's blocking public access, by straight up thuggery, and threat or arrest.
The Para Thug wants free money demanding and expect zero overhead cost or liabilities.

Insurance Hugh?

Postby Chris McKeon » Fri May 24, 2024 12:33 pm

OK Please pardon Me for what I am about to say. But here is a subject that I should Know Flight Insurance: what I ask is this: Why is it that We Hang Glider Pilots Paying Flight Insurance? I mean I am just trying to understand what is it that we have Insurance to pay for Damages that might occur by a by a Pilot due to Poor Piloting of His Aircraft. I mean does anyone know of an incident in the Past, where a Pilot due to negligence with His or Hers Glider Haas there Been a case of when a Pilot caused an accident where a Third Parties Life or Limb was ended? Or their Life was ended By a Hang Glider Pilot. Well, was there a case where a Bystander damages that occurred by no fault of their own. Is there a Case when A Pilot could not Pay for the Damages done By Their Actions.

In a Nut Shell, Why is it that We have Insurance?

There was an accident at Dog Mt that ended with an elderly woman, a spectator, losing her life from a blown launch. Maybe it was not ultimately a case of negligence as much as insufficient safety management.
This was a very long time ago, certainly prior to the RRRG scam perpetrated by USHPA, or the USHPA itself.
My memory of the details is now clouded, but I think that Lloyds of London was still in the picture. I have no idea if the Outdoor Recreation Act was involved.
The person who was central to Dog Mt issues left us, long ago, for the great lift . . .

Chelan Butte Washington (state) had a third party insurance pay out. A dust devil was spinning a hang glider on it’s nose. A man ran to help the pilot hang onto the glider and was hit by the spinning glider. He was airlifted to
Wenatchee WA. He was put in a medical induced coma for pain for a week.

There was a video on-line showing the Chelan Butte glider spinning on launch and striking at least one person.

I have not been able to find that video in recent years, and it might have been the video posted by Al (DarthVader) here:

The YouTube ID in Al's post is: zEi_kb7j20A_h8by, but that video doesn't seem to exist anymore. However, I can't say (and don't remember) if that was the Chelan Butte incident or something else.

There was a ridged wing that also spun on its nose and the dust devil also sucked in a paraglider and it was ground to shreds. The spinning glider knocked Larry Jorgensen down but he was okay.
No claim was made that I know of. I also saw pictures of this in USHPA’s magazine.
