Hang gliding does not need any "saving." Those who are drawn to the kind of flight hang gliding may offer will find hang gliding. What ultra-portable hang gliders (UPHG or TPHG (tiny-packable)) one day will offer: a special realm of hang gliding fit for some and not fit for others; take it or leave it! Anyone is invited to advance the development of UPHGs :!:
=======================================================
The Walkered UPHG
What is that?
Have a walker and crust it with the parts of a UPHG to get a walkered UPHG.
That's it for that!
Or: ...
Consider using UPHG segmented parts to build up a walker. At flight site, take the walker apart and reassemble to the flight worthy HG.

============================
Consider upright walkers.
Maxkare Upright Rollator Walker?
Elevate Upright Walker?
Drive Elevate Upright Walker?

The Bicycled UPHG?
What is that? One way or another the net complex lets one travel roads and sidewalks somewhat like a bicycle.

A quick thought of one solution: take a standard bicycle and encrust it with the segment parts of a UPHG. Designers will encrust the segments in various ways, some more clever than others; the competition is on.

Another path: using the segment parts of a UPHG, manage to assemble a special bicycle with those parts and perhaps a few non-HG parts. This path may be more challenging than the above path.

Another path: simply have a bicycle and trail wagon UPHG.

Another means: Pilot wears the UPHG and mounts a bicycle to get to places.

Another arrangement: intend that the bicycle glides with the UPHG; land with the whole affair. Perhaps de-power the sail an pedal back up the slope.

The Worn UPHG
Wear one's UPHG.
How? The design competition is on!
The spar segments are worn as clothes items nearly?
The couplers are worn as clothes items nearly?
Sail segments are worn as clothes items?
The rigging lines are worn as clothes items?
One's harness and helmet are worn.
At flying site: disrobe and build up one's UPHG.
Clear! Fly.

The Crutches UPHG
This family of UPHG has been mentioned earlier in this topic thread.

Within this family, there are two main sub-families:

Crutch-Encrusted UPHG – In this approach, existing crutches are used as the base, and the UPHG’s segments and parts are encrusted onto them for tote trips.

Crutch-Forming UPHG – Here, the UPHG’s own parts are arranged and packed to form one or two functional crutches. Additional parts may be carried separately or even discreetly worn by the pilot during tote time.

The UPHG Tote Family: Crutches vs. Walkers

Over time, several branches of the Ultra-Portable Hang Glider (UPHG) tote family have appeared:

The Worn UPHG → parts become clothing items.

The Bicycled UPHG → parts encrust or form a bicycle.

The Walkered UPHG → parts encrust or form a walker.

The Crutches UPHG → parts encrust or form crutches.

Now, zooming in on Walkers vs. Crutches:

Two-Crutch Arrangement
By encrusting or forming two crutches with UPHG parts, and carrying a few “tiny packs” on the body, one achieves a compact, slim profile. This is well-suited to urban transit, since it takes less bus or train space than walker solutions.

Walker / Upright Walker Arrangement
Using a walker (especially an upright rollator type) gives greater tote comfort, rolling ease, and higher capacity. Social camouflage is strong, but the tradeoff is bulk — harder to manage in crowded transit spaces.

Summary of tradeoffs:

Crutches = compact and nimble for tight urban routes.

Walkers = spacious and comfortable for longer, less crowded travel.

As with other branches of the family, the design competition is on! :!: :!: :!:

Think of your UPHG as a theorem waiting to be proven. To most people, the theorem is just a statement: “Build the glider.” That’s like your friend saying, “Just build it!”

But for you, the process of designing it—the choice of spars, the tension of the socks, the behavior of compression sticks—is like working through the proof. Each challenge you encounter is a lemma: a small, meaningful insight that helps you understand the system more deeply. Every failed approach is a “false path” in the proof, teaching you something you couldn’t have predicted. And the joy comes in the same way a mathematician delights in discovering a clever trick or elegant argument: it’s the aha! of seeing the pieces finally fit together in a way that feels just right.

Finally, the completed UPHG is like writing down the final proof. It is satisfying, yes, but the true reward was the adventure of getting there—the thinking, experimenting, iterating, and discovering. Just as no theorem is fully appreciated without the struggle and insight of its proof, no glider is fully meaningful without the journey of its design.

In short: the journey is the proof, and the finished UPHG is only the elegant statement at the end. Without the adventure, the statement loses its depth

In the coming era of UPHGs, some pilots will perform flaired flares. :!:

=======================================================================
Half-span right of keel: three spar segments starting at keel: CF, CF, FG,
So span pile: FG, CF, CF, CF, CF, FG. Such could be an option in some UPHG designs.
CF:: carbon fiber tube. FG:: fiberglass stick that may or may not be tube, but cold be rod or slat.

Note that FG, CF, CF could be packed as one nest.

Four-Nest Pack for UPHG

A non-standard but feasible approach is to create one nest that holds **two queenposts (QPs) and one kingpost (KP)**. At first glance, one might want the two QPs to match exactly in OD and ID, but for packing purposes it can be reasonable to tolerate asymmetry. The two QPs could differ slightly in size while still maintaining adequate strength if dimensions are chosen carefully. In this arrangement, the KP would be the smallest OD item in the nest, giving a **QP–QP–KP configuration**.

In some UPHG packings, there could be four distinct nests of frame segments:

1. Left wing nest (perhaps 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 segments)
2. Right wing nest (perhaps 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 segments)
3. Keel nest (perhaps 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 segments)
4. Post nest (containing QP, QP, KP) (perhaps 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 segments)

Depending on the arrangement of the four nests, the frame pack cross-section could take one of three forms:

1. Linear (1 × 4) – all tubes in a single row.
2. Square (2 × 2) – two rows of two tubes, forming a square cross-section.
3. Slanted rhombic – staggered or diamond layout, similar to a small triangular lattice.

Triangle Control Frame (TCF) and Base Considerations:
The TCF consists of two downtubes (the QPs) and a tube or bar often called the control bar or basebar, forming the base of the triangle. When using wire rigging, one or more crosslines may substitute for the rigid basebar while still providing a firm base under positive flight loads. These base cables allow the pilot to control pitch via weight shifting. Pre-tension in the rigging—whether neutral or under negative flight loads—maintains tension in the base cable. Choosing rigging lines to substitute for a rigid basebar is an option some designers may adopt (and is planned in my designs).

This approach allows compact packing, tolerates asymmetrical queenposts, and offers flexibility in frame design by optionally substituting a rigid basebar with rigged cables.

---

P.S. In recreational hang gliding, the cable-stayed triangle control frame was used in sport hang gliding meets in the first decade of 1900s by more than W. Simon. :!: :!: :!: So, one might refrain from attributing invention of such to later users of the simple rigged control device.

Cousin to above post is an alternative option where Queens are same OD and ID
and the keel encloses the other frame nests. There is room for other items
inside the spaces that are not taken by the frame segments.

Packing Doctrine (with crosslines clarified)

Core Frame Pack (inside keel)

Keel nest + 4 interior nests

Battens (in sleeve, inside one nest or void)

Tailing parts slipped into cavities

Sail Wrap Layer (around frame pack)

Sail segments flat-rolled

Deflated inflatables included in sail roll

Tail sail (if not inside frame pack) wrapped with sail

Pilot-Carried / Wearable

Crosslines (at waist, like clothing belts)

Small ditty bags with Joe-Cups, caps, snub cushions, nose cover, repair kit

That way, during transit the pilot looks like:

Carrying one rigid rectangular pack (frame + sail wrap)

Wearing a belted waist strap (crosslines)

Maybe with pocketed ditty bags (small items hardly noticeable)
