At least, but importantly: the Joe Cup coupler is not just an external coupler; indeed, the Joe Cup coupler has external parts but the external collar does not couple the two joined tubes; rather, there is in Joe Cup coupler an integrated internal part that integrates with the external part; the internal part sets up child insertion limit while the flange-collar-external part sits on the outside of the mother tube; in some versions of the Joe Cup, some material may ride on the outside of the child tube, but such does not do coupling duty.
