As a new student, I would like to scout for gear and gliders. I am unable to register onto hanggliding.org and pull contact information on the pilots selling them. Why? As being new to the sport, it seems as though this classified information is extreemly golden to those looking to "gear-up!" Other pilots have concerned thier efforts to register and log onand have not been successful. I am 145 lbs. at 5'5"1/4. Harness, helmet, and information where I can find another forum that offers the same amazing market as hanggliding.org would be nice.

Go for it Bear. None of us do as much as BobK. How does he do it? He says LiteHawk is for display/instructional. IMO But, really he is designing a HG speed wing. Yep, You've heard of speedwings. Small hang gliders, that's all. It really looks like it would fly like a rocket. The thermaling animation didn't fool me. Takeoff and landing might require superior pilot skills......... I want one.

OMG, what does IMO mean. I didn't know what Bob was doing. I might have caught a quick remark from Bob. A LightHawk! I totally appreciate hawks! We know a place in Cederville, Ca. that rehabilitates eagles and hawks. That is 60 miles south of Lakeview. Yep, I'm in Lakeview,Or.
I am finding my involvement has taken me from having a beautiful experience to finding an instructor in Oregon. To getting to know our county, and being passionate about a sport hobby. I have had a time in the field running a glider and two tandems flights. I am exploring so much in the sport visually, and verbally. I will wait 'till the winters over to start my training.

There's a topic on Lite Hawk which was originally named "Little Hawk". The idea came from Joe Greblo's little hang glider and from watching my friend Ken let people lift his glider at Torrey. It also came from allowing Sara to run with my glider in the Lakeview LZ. In all cases, it really helps for people to see a real hang glider and be able to interact with it in a safe environment. That's the goal of Lite Hawk (also called Little Hawk), and I thank Joe, and Ken, and Sara for being contributors to that inspiration.

Since this topic is about looking for gear to get started, maybe that should be a chapter in the US Hawks Training Manual. I've started the manual in the "Building the US Hawks" forum, and right now I'm just looking for chapter headings. Sara, since you're our "experimental student" for the training manual, maybe you could suggest some topics there that you think would make good chapters from your perspective. Sometimes it's hard for those of us who've been in the sport to remember what our early questions were. So your perspective would be very helpful to remind us of the questions that new pilots have. Thanks.
