Assorted Odd Photos

Postby Bob Kuczewski » Mon Dec 09, 2013 8:30 pm

Bill Cummings posted about his King Mountain visit in 2009 and that got me thumbing through some of my old photos looking to see which year I was at King. In the process, I came across some "oddball" photos that didn't seem to belong anywhere else, so I decided to start an "Assorted Odd Photos" topic. Please post any of your own odd photos here!!

I happened to see this rare bird driving down the street one night in January of 2009:

I followed him to an off-ramp and got this photo of a trike on floats:

I can't remember if I talked to the owner or not, but I thought it was pretty cool!!

Here's a picture of Joe Spinney (a past Torrey Hawks President) getting ready for a flight with his carry on luggage (February 2009):

I don't quite know what Joe was doing, but I think it might have been for a commercial of some sort.

Here he is checking out the launch conditions:

Here's his launch run:

And here he is flying away:

This is not that "odd" of a picture, but it was a nice memory so I snuck it in here.

This is my good friend Kenny's old Falcon with his Canadian Maple leaf patch. It turns out that he damaged his sail and needed to repair it. Since he's from Canada, he figured he'd advertise his country with a maple leaf. It became his "signature" glider at Torrey.

This is one of the few pictures I have of me flying Kenny's glider. Kenny taught me how to stretch my arms out to the side like a bird and steer the glider with my arms on the side wires. If you look closely, that's what I'm doing in this photo:

Thanks for all the flying and friendship Kenny!!

And speaking of Kenny ... this next photo was taken that same day with Kenny launching and spinning around backwards as he flys away from launch:

Don't try this at home kids ... unless you've got a few thousand miles of laminar air blowing in at your site!!!

Here's Kenny again showing me the proper form for flying like a bird:

Here's a nice picture of Alex and John back when Alex was making his training flights under John's instruction at Horse Canyon:

And this is Alex launching at Horse. This might have been his first flight there ... but I'm not sure.

I think these are two more of John's students from that day in 2009:
