Sounds like you miss those days flying when the tow release would freeze up.

I thought our winter had come and gone last week. Well we did have a fire in the fireplace better part of the week, isn't that enough.

Then it warmed up to 85* Wed.-Thurs.

But it's on us again, mid 20*s last night. ~ 1/2" of ice on the goat's water tub this morning.

Well there's 9ft of snow in Jackson Hole. I can do without that.

But if you're looking to freeze up the release..................

Sam, I was going to return with some smack right back at you but lost my train of thought when the accident occurred.
I think it was going to be something along the lines of me reporting you to the ASPCA for allowing a half inch of ice to form on your goat’s hot tub. But memory is the second thing to go they say. The first being ------um --(Well it couldn’t have been that important. Let me get back to you on that one.)
Hindsight being 20/20 I must have last approached my countertop angling in from the left when I set down my empty Coke can. When turning from the computer after reading your post ---- the accident pilot noticed an open can of Coke on the countertop. Approaching the countertop while angling in from the right side (critical clue there.) the accident pilot picked up the Coke can and shook it to feel several drops remaining. Failing to give the Coke can a proper pre-drink (Editors note: Accident pilot rumored to have an undiagnosed drinking problem.) the accident pilot picked up the can and failed to notice the improper alignment between the can’s aperture and the accident pilots mouth. The accident pilot now claims that he wanted to toss it back abruptly so that the remaining “several drops,” would clear the aperture’s “freeboard,” and totally empty the can before tossing it into the recycle container, thus preventing any spillage. The “several drops,” estimation (in hindsight again) would more accurately approach a gulp and a half or at least enough to douse a fire on my left cheek.
All this because I was preoccupied with your post. (or would that be post occupied?) WHATEVER--
I stained my fresh, white, King Mountain, 2006, long sleeved “T” shirt. I HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE!
So as you fall asleep tonight Sam, don’t think about wood ticks making your scalp itchy.

I called Robin’s house a little while ago but no one picked up but his machine. His cell phone was either off or in the dead zone near Magdalena Rim.
The LZ is also in the dead zone.
We pilots should start referring to it as a NCAA. (Non Communication Access Area.) Not a DZ/LZ (Dead Zone/Landing Zone). It has a bad ring to it even though you won’t hear on there.

I was getting ready to start the coffee makers for the Search and Rescue Team and have them follow me to the Rim when Robin called.
He told me that he and Nancy just got back from the Memorial Service.
WHAT!? Oh yes. He had told me earlier that he had to attend a service today so it wasn’t anyone I knew. (Why does that make it better? It shouldn’t.)
He had called off the day also as too cold.
So I have to figure out when or if I should unload my Xterra.

Sam,
Good news! You’re back on the Christmas list.
A combination of Tide laundry detergent, Shout triple-acting, plus Simple green all-purpose cleaner, and a cold wash and rinse cycle got the stain out.
It appears my launch of psychological warfare (Wood tick thingy) was premature.
My apologies.
Yes. I now see what you can do. It even had after effects. With all the dust up I forgot to plug in my birdbath warmer last night and now I have ice in it this morning. It got down to under 30 degrees last night and now at 8:34 it’s 32.3 degrees.

T-shirts are impossible to replace. I have my favorites. The first year, 2002 Texas Open Fly-in shirt is still good for a night shirt. Actually one of the best quality shirts out of all the years. Jim Gaar did the shirts that year in Kansas City.. The shirts were shipped and made it to San Antonio. We had some flooding across South central Tx. and they got shipped back to KC. I notified Jim the shirts had not arrived, just in time for him to get them turned around for a second time and they made it through that time. The day of the fly-in, Whew

A Torrey Pines T from '78? is another favorite.

Glad your King Mtn shirt came clean. Tell us about the flights you had there.

Hey Sam I was looking through my time stamped pictures on my laptop and nearly fell over when I had to look all the way back to 7-11-2009 for my last stop at King Mountain. Life is like a giant stone wheel. It takes for ever to get it rolling and once up to speed it keeps accelerating and there is no slowing it down.

It felt only like two years ago that I met fellow RGSA club member Mike Ellsworth there. We waited for a few days for just anything to get off that shallow launch. Mike got a little puff of air that suckered him off the top launch facing south.
No one was going off the metal launch ramp on the back side. Mike had a sled ride to the bottom.
The thermal puffs were very light. I swear I’ve felt a stronger puff at the eye doctors when being tested for glaucoma.
Here is where Mike took his slid ride on the only good cycle during the high pressure

Actually my 2006 King Mountain tee shirt was given to me by John Quinn Olson (Ole) in 2007 when we were both living at the airport north of Rodeo, New Mexico (USA). He had too many shirts and asked me if I wanted it. I thanked him and put it with a variety of some of my other prestigious collage shirts that I collect to spread the erroneous impression that I am a widely traveled and highly intelligent hang glider pilot. ( I THINK it’s been working).
PS The pictures went in on the wrong place and in reverse order. I need some more practice.

The summer of 2009 was, THE YEAR OF THE BACK.
The trip to Chelan, WA., (USA) toasted my lower back.
(06-30-2009 to 07-10-2009)
I’m wondering if that was the time frame of the King Mountain Nationals?
I had to invent a strap to get home rather than sell my car and hg gear and ride home in an ambulance. No flights for me this summer until 10-10-2009.
I stopped at King 07-11-2009 and 07-12-2009 on my way to Minnesota.
I looked for Mike Ellsworth in your pictures (RGSA pilot) but didn’t recognize him or his truck.
That year I had to scratch out my personal rule to keep track what I packed for the trip and did not use and then not pack it for the next trip. Otherwise I would have to leave my HG and HG bag at home for my next HG trip. Some rules need to be broken.
That reminds me Bob --slight detour here: I saw on Youtube after the Supreme Court ruled that a corporation is a person that some smart butt placed his corporation documents on the riders seat of his car and got pulled over by the police for using the HOV lane. He argued with the officer that he was following the letter of the law as ruled by the Supreme Court. Some judge is going to have a big headache with that lawsuit. One must be very careful when making a rule.

If the date was set properly on my camera, then the dates of those photos range from July 24th through July 26th of 2009. So I must have just missed you!!

Did you know they were holding the Nationals there that year?

He argued with the officer that he was following the letter of the law as ruled by the Supreme Court. Some judge is going to have a big headache with that lawsuit.
