I'm not going to comment this part yet, but it might be interresting to see your comments

The U.S. Hawks forum attempts to maintain a balance between a poster's individual desires
and the preservation of history and context. In this case, the picture does provide some
context for other contemporaneous posts. It is preserved here for that purpose.

Tiny-Packed-HG Movement

Bob Kuczewski's offer of the Alpha 210 and hacksaw was a doable TPHG 4 or 4.5 or 5 solution that would have been a heavy-for-my-choices event; but the project still might tempt someone.

Could KUGS' teased part be a __________ :?:  ___________ :?: :?: :?:
????: deflexing support in a non-bowsprit-non-crossbar solution??
????: Bracket to support airfoil-forming line??

Comments by Florian indicate to me a strong bent to accept a final mass that for my aims might be a no-go for happy bus-and-hike. The volume of a toted solution could be large or small or tiny; length of "in-car" solutions and happy-polite-safe-busing solutions may well be close, but the handling could be quite different. The total mass of an "in-car" solution could be quite different from a hiked-city-bus-polite-safe-to-be-in-bus-crunch solution. Many types of solutions form the openness of this topic thread.

For very light solution, Finsterwalder did it with the Superfex. This picture of my collector item from 1979 shows 15.6kg in 2m packing. The Jetfex, using the same nose frame is 18.3kg.

About crossbar and bowsprit, I do have an option to put on a bowsprit, if necessary.

12 Years ago my ebike prototype was years ahead of its time at 45 lbs with bikelock and 18 mph and 20 mile range for $550.
Today my new telescopic hang glider will obtain the same success as ebikes which are now sold by the millions.
Ebike videos of my prototype from 12 years ago. Ebike4.

Any 36volt battery works and I have adapted Ryobi 36 batteries to connect as well. I have made new revisions to the telescopic hang glider coming soon including a 12 foot version which is simplier. With 3 batterys(2 Ryobi) I have 80 mile range with the ebike.

The Bautek Astir (Bowsprit) which is made in Germany has a 3 meter/9 foot shortpack option with 15 minute setup time.

Florian's part puzzle, further guessing? ?? lighter nose plate? [ ]
-----------------------------------------

Doug's Astir post: Most welcome post; thanks.
What is half of 9.84252? ... a bit under 5 ft.

Development note:
Spanwise lines between chordwise struts might hold up airfoil stuffers for SS TPHG.

The drug cartel that caused years long disabillity to my shoulder and ended my hang gliding flight careear and caused wife to be 911 evacuated to hospital from planted rattle snake bite that costed California taxpayers was destroyed in June 2023 DEA arson assult that also damage the ushawks Antelope Valley hang glider compound. Here is the satellite before photo.

Not a plate
Not shur to be lighter
But, even if it might look like a "heavy A-Frame"... the nose (2d view)

I let you imagine and/or draw the thirt dimension of it

Florian puzzle piece guessing: Could it be the stand-off holding three cables to outrig a central spar-segment set? :?:  :?:
A tapered set of such stand-offs could help outrig a long spar.

Development note (rough, unfinished, omissions, and with probable errors; sail covering may be other than nylon ripstop)
For a TPHG 4 ft of pack length of 4 feet, but adjustments could be made for a 5-ft option of less strut density, etc. Option intent on the 4-ft deal would be a use of telescopic overlap of 6 inches, thus having left wing spars of extended length set at 16 ft less three portions of join 6" for a net of 14.5 ft left LE, and similar for the right wing; couplers would add some mass and some sail-area opportunity, if wanted; a small amount might be used for the spar joining the keel. Empennage is fully omitted in this note, but attention for such would be needed for completion. :!:

Assembly Instructions from Toted Pack
Note: Toted pack could be arranged as a low-CG wheeled pulled arrangement; and the wheels could become part of a wheeled TPHG.

Unpacking:
Open the ground cloth, which doubles as the wrapping bag for the toted pack.
Lay out the ground cloth with pre-marked positions for assembly. The ground cloth helps to keep sand and dust away from the quad-telescopic parts.

Keel Assembly:
Connect and secure the two keel parts using shear pins.
Position the keel assembly on the ground cloth as indicated.

Spar Set Placement:
Place the four spar sets according to their final wing configuration on the ground cloth.

Spar Expansion and Shear Pin Insertion: Note: If a coupler system is rather chosen, then instructions would differ.
Extend the telescopic spar segments fully.
Insert shear pins to secure the inner larger segments to the keel and attach the chordwise struts.

Diagonal Stay Lines:
Install 16 diagonal stay lines to maintain the structural integrity and shape of the wing. Left and right wing presents four quadrilaterals to be stayed. 2x4x2=16

Crossline Mounting: (a spanwise crossline goes from left wing to right wing; a chordwise crossline goes from nose to keel)
Attach flying and landing lines to the spar sets using crosslines.
Mount fore-to-aft crosslines to the nose and rear position of the keel.

Kingpost and Queenposts Insertion:
Insert the kingpost and adjust its length to achieve proper tension.
Install queenposts into the keel and connect to flying crosslines to form the control bar (no bar, just the portion of crosslines; but perhaps an overwrap will be used that gives "hand" and also foundation for two wheels; each wheel will consist of four half-wheels somehow)

Final Adjustments and Checking:
Ensure all lines are correctly tensioned and aligned.
Perform a final check of all termini and connections.

Covering Installation:
Dress the assembled frame with the ripstop nylon covering.
Secure the edges into Velcro hooks positioned on sleeves attached to spar segments.

Airfoil Forming Stuffers:
Place airfoil-forming stuffers to shape the wing covering for optimal aerodynamic performance.

Follow these detailed steps in sequence to assemble the hang glider directly over the ground cloth, which serves as the wrapping bag for the toted pack. Ensure each component is correctly positioned and secured according to the instructions for safe and efficient assembly.

The above assumes dressing a pre-rigged SS lined skeleton. Differently would be to line rig a DS socked wing after the socks are placed; this would require perhaps some access holes for attaching the upper and lower rigging lines; the quadrilateral-shape-keeping diagonal stays and stuffer-support lines could be places before socking the wing. Airfoil-forming stuffer system might be somewhat collapsed while the socks are placed; then pull up the stuffer assembly for robust airfoil forming. DS would usually invite a final heavier empty weight for the TPHG. And attaching rigging lines would follow a different dealing.
