Drop Lines while Tolerating Line Drag

Postby JoeF » Fri Nov 04, 2022 8:53 am

What might be done with drop lines when line drag is tolerated?.

For the sake of discussion, perhaps have "drop lines" refer to lines dropping vertical from a carrier line which carrier line goes from kingpost to a wingtip post. The wingtip vertical post could be from wingtip up or be from below wingtip to above wingtip with intention of staying the lower of that post to one of the queen posts of the TCF (triangle control frame). The drop lines could also be lines from the wing down to the lower carrier line. What might be done from the one or both horizontal carrier lines? What might be on the carrier lines? What can be done with upper or lower drop lines that anchor to a carrier line as indicated? A world of opportunities opens with such carrier lines and drop lines; those opportunities might cut into L/D, but overall system pleasures might be enhanced by judicious play over carrier lines and drop lines.

Note that drop lines may be connected to the wing and carrier line or just drop freely hanging from a carrier line.
Note "Note that"that devices or structures may be mounted on carrier lines or drop lines.
Note that a drop line might be thick or thin.
Note that a drop line might be covered by a stick. Sticks may be streamlined.
Note that a drop line might be taut or slack.
Note that a drop line might be with a stick that could be rotated.
Note that drop lines may be angled to TE or to LE or from carrier line to carrier line at various angles.
Note that a carrier line may be placed at x distance below the lower surface of the wing. What aerodynamic effect would such a carrier line have? Thicken the line to a fluttering ribbon and get drag, yet, but what else happens to the macro aerodynamics of the base HG wing?
Note that a stick my be held by the carrier line with the stick extending beyond the wingtip projection. What could be done at the end of such a stick or with the stick itself?
Note that structures may be developed with two drop lines siding the structure. Structures will have various aerodynamic effects, fixed or controllable.
Note that a drop line holding a vertical stick could have the stick extend vertically higher than the carrier line.
Note that drop lines may be used to stay the carrier line at outboard stations.
Note that the wingtip posts anchoring the carrier lines coming from the KP-Qp scene could become foundations for wingtip treatments: winglets, rudders, flags, camera mounts, sensors, etc.  :?:
Note that one, two, or more carrier lines may be installed. If the drag is tolerated, what can be done with two carrier lines from wingtip-to-Kp-to-wingtip?

Hmmmmm? What say you?   :?: :?: :?:

Ah yes - the wing walking possibilities! I knew a pilot (not HG) who had a 90 year old wing walker. I'll be 90 in three years. Should I start practicing?

90 is a big number Frank. I hope you are still getting to Dockweiler once in a while to keep those flying neurons refreshed!!
