The sad passing of USHPA #8

Postby Bob Kuczewski » Fri Mar 28, 2025 12:33 pm

I just got the news from Frank Colver that his son Matt passed away earlier this month:

Frank Colver wrote:Hi HG folks,

Many of you knew my oldest son Matt who was at the 1st Lilienthal meet with a “Bamboo Bomber” and then flew Eipper standards in the earlier years of the new HG sport.

I’m sad to tell you that Matt died in surgery on March 5th in St George Utah. He was 69 years old and his death was unexpected.

We not only flew hang gliders together but also single place, foot launch, hot air balloons.

He was SCHGA/USHGA #8

He was a wonderful son and I will always miss him greatly.

I turned 90 a few days after his death and I wish he could have had those additional years between 69 and 90.

As Frank mentioned, Matt was at the first Otto Meet and he also attended some of the more recent Otto Meet reunions.

I started this topic as news in the main forum, but I think it would be good to post remembrances of Matt in the "U.S. Hang Gliding Pilots" forum topic titled "Matt Colver".
