Good find, Rick Masters.
The article had long time ago been seen. But your bringing forward the clip from The
San Francisco Call, Jan. 25, 1910, urges us to get the full article up in the US Hawks forum. The vertical height of the clip may be cut to segments. I can do that or you; what say you?
About the "30 years" ago note by the reporter in the 1910 article computes to 1880,
but I caution that the report may be a haste rounding of year rather than accurate. See:
http://www.flyingmachines.org/mont.html where the expected note appears: "He began his own aerial experiments in late August of 1883" "In 1884 he constructed a monoplane glider with curved wing surfaces, in which he made a glide of some considerable length, from Otay Mesa, near San Diego, California."
Nice clipping. Thanks! At your permission, I'll put up the article in segments to fit the forum coding.
Best,
Joe
