As far as awards go that recognize the
contributions to self launched flight, the name that should be most prominent
on this list is Roy Haggard's. He did more to make flex-wing flight safe and
ultimately enjoyable than any other individual I can think of...
So please accept my nomination for Roy. Best, Peter Brock
This topic thread invites a flowering of Roy's aviation life.
He was one of the early Otto members of Self-Soar Association. He was especially inspired through a Low & Slow recommendation for a book on man-powered flight; that got him rolling strongly. He would show at some of our first meets; his first showing was with a very tight-sailed flex-wing hang glider of low-wing loading; he floated ever so slowly, he in excellent control. He would continue his personal investments and ended up pioneering changes that would mark the end of the dominance of the Worth/Richards/Ryan/Others wing in the renaissance and bring in a new level of control and flight enjoyment. His professional life has been chock full of things that very well may interest hang glider designers. I hope many will post things about Roy's aviation life.
