I was thinking about my own target membership price of $50 for the new organization compared to USHPA's $75.
I don't know what USHPA is paying Paul Montville, but with benefits and
expenses it's probably on the order of $100,000 per year (+/- a factor
of 2).
If we have 10,000 members, in rough numbers, that means that $10 of
our $75 fee could be saved just by eliminating that one position (the
savings get proportionally bigger as our numbers get smaller). We'd
still have all the full time staff. We'd still have all the insurance.
We'd still have all the Board members ... and their reimbursed travel
expenses. We'd still have the office and the telephones and copying
machines and Foundation and everything else. We'd even still have the
magazine!
Just something to think about when we're considering how to deliver a more competitive product to our members.

I would be willing to pay $100 a year...
That's 0.2739726 cents per day folks.
This would also help with insurance premiums within a smaller group.

I'd be willing to pay $100/year also...as long as we didn't have a logo that sucked.
I'm 'old school'...I kinda like this one:

That is correct.
And according to wikipedia
"Unless otherwise provided by law, the organization does not formally exist until bylaws have been adopted."
So we dont even exist. But that shouldnt stop potential members from pledging possible future funds.
Wish we would hurry up and finish the name voting. Could have a
majority with 4 more votes. Then we can start collaborating on our
bylaws (err constitution) I have another forum ready to go for this.

I
think most people over at The Oz Report know I've been an advocate of
this or at least some kind of division within the USHPA for several
years now. I think the community is somewhat split on a new
organization, but if another existed, I think a lot of those people
might join if it looked like it was making any headway at all. It's
time for something new, so I would be happy to pay dues for a new org
if there is enough interest.

No one is collecting money -- I should know, I tried to give them some.

I
would like to offer my resources in creating a new Org that focuses on
the needs of its members! I also agree that when the time comes for
money I would pay more to get more.

Oh, I guess it's too soon to sell one of my kidneys on EBay
But seriously, when the time comes I will be happy to:
(1) Pay a $100 annual fee
(2) Volunteer my time anywhere it is needed

We will need ALL kinds of volunteers... thats for sure.
PR people, graphic artists, writers, computer programmers, managers, etc...
Just need to settle on the name... then we can start collaborating on a new site.
I will make hg.org one of the first member websites and provide for a
sub-forum here for the new org, for fun stuff. Biz/org stuff will occur
on a new forum.
Well... at least thats my offer. The members can decide on the details.

Call for Leaders
Before we leave this forum, I think we should establish a group of
leaders for the new organization. I think it's important to do it here
because most of our Founding members know this site and visit
regularly.
I've created one more topic (sorry for so many, but hopefully it
will be the last of the "bootstrapping" topics) to call for leaders.
I'm asking each founding member to list 3 people who they feel would
represent their views on a "Transition Team" to get us formed up by
July 4th. That Transition Team will do its work in the open (on one
forum or another). I'm especially asking for nominees who have been
active forum members so we don't have to wait so long for votes. All
members will be able to participate in the discussions, but the voting
should go much faster with a smaller and more active group.
Thanks for your consideration.

I'd
like to jump on board as a founder. I was a little hesitant, wondering
if this flickering flame would turn into a fire or just burn out
(obviously I'm rooting for it) but then I was reminded that if you
don't try, you don't succeed. Count me in!

July 4th is the cutoff for Founding Fathers to get their name in.
I just sent off an email to some flying friends of mine that don't frequent this web site.
Hoping to drum up a bit more interest (talent).
Everyone here should do likewise.
Tell a friend.

I will pay dues,
Even without insurance.
If I can prove liability insurance already, (I have a rider on my
renter's policy), should be able to show proof of that and then
allocate the dues to the general fund.
But, here's my real contribution. I'll be the one who applies for the
San Diego Hang Gliding Permit so we can fly Torrey and pay exactly the
amount on the lease, last I saw, $5 and none of this $100 for a tandem
bullshit.

Count
me in as both Leader and Founder. If you're going to use "... of
America" in the name, you'll need representatives in Canada (and
Mexico, and South America).

If
your serious? That would be cool to have you. If your just here as a
plant to sew seeds of frustration, confusion, negativety, doubt,
arrogance? You can go back to the OZ report.

I'm not anyone's plant (though I may be a bit of a vegetable
sometimes), and I never do any of that. You might be confusing me with
someone else.
